You heard that right, the king is back and he’s returning in some pretty sweet PUMA gear. Decked out from head to toe in a video posted to his Twitter feed, Neymar Jr has announced his story for all to see.
“This will be my PUMA story.” Opening on the one and only Neymar Jr, the video reveals the man, the myth, the legend as he reminisces over the great football legends of the past. Growing up watching videos of some of the best ever, he recognises that Pelé, Cruyff, Matthäus, Eusébio and Maradona “were the Kings of the pitch.”
Dreaming of becoming a king himself, unlike the players of the past, Neymar wants to do it his way. Wishing to bring back the “legacy” held by those athletes who made football the global sport it is today, Neymar wants the King to reign on the pitch once more. “Every time I lace my boots, my KING boots,” he continued. “I will do anything to achieve all of my dreams to honour my name and that of all those great ones who wore the KING before me. This will be my PUMA history. The KING is back!”
The new signing comes amid a raft of big names for PUMA, which also included UFC champion Israel Adesanya. Effectively ending his high profile mammoth 15-year deal with Nike, which was reportedly worth $63 million, Neymar Jr is continuing his position as the most expensive player in football. With PUMA confirming the legendary deal with the Brazilian player, the sportswear company outlined Neymar’s role as “brand ambassador” both on and off the pitch.
“As one of the most successful athletes of his generation, Neymar will wear PUMA’s legendary King football boot on the pitch,” PUMA said in a statement. “He will also be a brand ambassador off-pitch, wearing PUMA’s most important lifestyle, training, and sport-inspired footwear and apparel products.”
Aiming to “inspire generations as has inspired mine,” Neymar is creating a new chapter of PUMA history while throwing back to the classic designs of yesteryear. This new collab pays tribute to all those that have come before him, while also looking forward to the future of the sport. Declaring proudly that “the king is back,” we can’t wait to see what will be coming out next.
