Sneaker News #29 – Sean Wotherspoon Takes on the adidas ZX 8000

Welcome to Sneaker News #29. Sneaker collaboration master Sean Wotherspoon’s take on the adidas ZX 8000 is the headline-grabber this week. His past collaborations with Nike and ASICS have been slam-dunks and this one looks to be no different. It’s not the only shoe worth copping this week though. Nike continues to smash out iconic Jordan colourways, particularly with the Air Jordan 1. It’s also continuing to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Air Huarache. Meanwhile, Dr Martens has teamed with atmos and VEJA has collided with Rick Owens once again. Check it all out below.

Zx 8000 superearth shoes

adidas ZX 8000 ‘SuperEarth’

Streetwear hero Sean Wotherspoon has gifted us some of the best sneaker collabs of the last few years teaming with everyone from Nike to ASICS. This time around, it’s adidas’ turn as he takes his eye to the ZX 8000. The shoes are part of the A-ZX series, celebrating the iconic Adidas’ silhouette and while there have been plenty of instant sell-outs in the series, this one is likely to go extremely quickly. Wotherspoon has fused recycled materials and mismatched patterns for a patchwork-like effect that immediately catches the eye. Get ready to cop from 15th April at adidas.

Air jordan hyper

Nike Air Jordan 1 ‘Hyper Royal’

The Air Jordan 1 is already having a phenomenal year with a slew of perfect colourways. That continues with the ‘Hyper Royal’ – a blue-dominated, textured pair of sneakers with hints of metallic silver. The colourway doesn’t stray too far from the hugely popular ‘University Blue’ but it does switch it up with suede overlays giving it a more rugged look. Grab a pair from Nike on 17th April.

Jordan 5

Nike Jordan 5 ‘Toro Bravo’

It’s a good week to be a Jordan fan. This 5 colourway is an old favourite but it’s making a return for the first time since 2009. There’s no missing this one with its fiery red upper and jagged, mismatched mid-sole. Premium suede on the upper means a slightly higher price point but it’s worth it to cop a piece of basketball history before it becomes a relic once again. Get a pair from Nike on 23rd April. It’s likely they will sell out in a heartbeat.

Veja ro

VEJA x Rick Owens Runner Style 2

Rick Owens and VEJA are now on their third collaboration and this time it’s one for the runners. These bold pink runners are boundary-breaking not only for their colour but also for their materials. The upper is made from recycled plastic bottles and it’s joined by a midsole made of 46 per cent sugar cane and 8 per cent banana oil, and an outsole made of natural cork with Amazonian rubber, and rice waste. The shoes will be available to buy from Subtype on 14th April.

Boost zx

adidas UltraBOOST 1.0 DNA ‘ZX 8000’

adidas is looking for inspiration in another one of its silhouettes for the latest UltraBOOST. The premier running shoe is dropping in three new colourways, each influenced by a version of the ZX. This aqua drop takes its inspiration from the ZX 8000, bringing together bold hints of aqua and neon yellow. The BOOST sole also takes on the aqua theme while hints of purple can be found in the branding. Subtype is yet to offer up a release date but keep an eye on the website for more details.

Marten atmos

Dr. Martens x atmos 1461

atmos and Dr have a number of collaborations under the belt but this time around ATMOS is taking on an icon. The iconic 1461 is the silhouette the Japanese sneaker shop has in its sights, keeping true to the black original with a few flashy details. Those include pink and blue laces and a clock-like graphic on each lateral heel. The heel tabs have also been inflated in size from the original. Subtype will have them up for sale on 17th April.

Air huarache

Nike Air Huarache ‘2003 Escape’

Nike Air Huarache is celebrating its 30th anniversary by digging back into the archive. Back in 2003, the ‘Escape’ colourway was snapped up quickly and now it’s making its return once again. It’s an earthy take on the shoe, offering up sophisticated tones of green and brown. Nubuck on the toe box and eyestays also give the shoes an elegant feel while the neoprene on the tongue is more of a traditional Huarache move. Keep an eye on Nike and Subtype on 16th April.
