Sneaker News #45 – Nike, Sacai and KAWS Create ‘Wearable Art’


Welcome to Sneaker News #45. As the holiday season quickly approaches, the drops are coming thick and fast. This week, it’s Nike, sacai and KAWS’ collaboration that’s catching eyes, creating ‘Wearable Art’ with the Blazer Low. Meanwhile the Jordan 11 ‘Cool Grey’ is celebrating its 20th anniversary as the Dunk Low continues its landmark year. Nike x sacai x KAWS Blazer Low

sacai has been innovating with a number of Nike silhouettes this year and now it’s teaming up with American artist KAWS for a Blazer Low. sacai and KAWS have been rolling out their collaborative Wearable Art collection and this is the final piece of it. And what a piece of art it is. Featuring sacai’s now trademark doubling-up of Nike sneaker elements and KAWS’ ‘XX’ motif on the mid-sole, these shoes are a collaborative win. Experiment 4 ‘emergency

Reebok by Pyer Moss Experiment 4 ‘Emergency’

Reebok by Pyer Moss debuted an out-of-this-world new addition. Crafted from three layers, The Experiment 4 ‘Emergency’ comes by way of Pyer Moss founder, Kerby Jean-Raymond, who was appointed Reebok’s Global Creative Director in 2020. A starkly brutalist design, Jean-Raymond’s collaboration is crafted from three layers, each representing a different component of classic sneaker culture. The Experiment 4 ‘Emergency’ launches on Sunday, November 14 at 2am AEST and retails for AUD$400.

Air Jordan 11 ‘Cool Grey’

The temperature is heating up in Australia but these Jordan 11s are all about keeping it cool. The ‘Cool Grey’ is returning once again, celebrating the 20th anniversary with the classic colourway that Jordan wore when he returned to the league. The upper features premium patent and nubuck leathers while the sole is defined by the icy outsole. Nike will have them on sale on 11th December.

Nike SB Dunk Low Pro ‘Black’

2021 will go down as the year of the Dunk return but the year isn’t going to go without a few more releases. This ‘Black’ colourway features a suede upper with a grey logo and a classic gum outsole. The Pro is the 2002 re-engineered release with a Zoom Air unit in the heel and a padded tongue. Keep an eye on Nike on 13th December.

Yeezy Boost 700 ‘Fade Azure’

The Yeezy Boost 700 has become one of Kanye’s most enduring shoes and now it’s arriving in a new colourway. Keeping the shoes defining features including the chunky Boost-bolstered sole and hints of fluro orange, this pair sports predominantly blue tones on the upper. Reebok has had its fair share of high-profile collaborations from Cardi B to Selena Gomez and now the spotlight is on A$AP crew member A$AP Nast. These trail-inspired shoes are made for hard wear, armed with Vibram® Ecostep midsoles there’s plenty of grip surrounding them. Nast has also considered the environmental impact using at least 30% recycled materials. Subtype will have these on sale from 27th November.

British streetwear brand Lazy Oaf has put its brush to the classic Dr. Martens 1461 Bex Low. Keeping with a black leather upper, the detailing is where it shines. One shoe is sad and the other one is happy with faces adorning the toe, heel, laces and tag. Wild Rose Dory shines on the inner lining. They’re on sale right now at Subtype.

New Balance BB50 ‘Carolina Blue’

Thanks to successful collaborations between New Balance and Aimé Leon Dore, the BB50 has become one of the brand’s most noteworthy sneakers this year. After debuting overseas earlier in the year, the ‘Carolina Blue’ is now coming to Australia, offering up powder blue just in time for summer. It’s a crisp and classic colorway in a way that only New Balance could deliver.
