Audemars Piguet has just taken its most iconic watch and dialled up the extravagant. Six new Royal Oak Concept Flying Tourbillions have been unveiled with each new variation absolutely dripping in diamonds and gemstones. Considering even the slightest of tweaks to the iconic line demands attention, icing them out entirely just proves AP doesn’t play fair.

The premium standard in horological design and innovation, the new diamond-gemstone Royal Oak Concept Flying Tourbillions are fittingly exorbitant. All six new releases feature white or pink gold 38.5mm cases that have been hand-set with colourful gemstones and diamonds. Highlighting the meticulously crafted piece is the iconic open-worked design, which provides an unimpeded view of the stunning tourbillon manufacture.

The true beating heart of the watch, this movement is a  225-part hand-wound manufacture calibre 2951. One of AP’s greatest-ever achievements, this manufacture has a 77-hour power reserve, flying tourbillon, and power reserve indicator. As expected, there is also glare-proof sapphire crystals and case backs, with all of the models copping crowns set with translucent sapphire cabochon gemstones. But that’s not the only jewels to take note of.

Each of the different versions features a series of exquisite precious gems. Ranging from brilliant to baguette-cut, the watches come complete with graded blue sapphires, rubies, diamonds, tsavorites, emeralds, topaz, tanzanites, and amethysts. Audemars Piguet has confirmed as many as 468 brilliant or 208 baguette-cut graded gems are set into the watch depending on the model. Further, the new pieces are available with two strap options: a blue alligator strap or a blue rubber strap with a “constellation” decoration.

While there’s no word on availability, you can bet these ones won’t come cheap. Standard Audemars Piguet Royal Oaks are highly sought after and adding a Flying Tourbillon certainly separates the men from the boys. One can only imagine how much 468 gemstones would up the price. You can head over to Audemars Piguet to view the collection, with the new pieces expected to arrive at very select retailers from October 2021.
