It’s not very often that you can say that something looks better in the dark and not mean it as an insult, but the Bell & Ross BR 03-92 Grey Lum fits that bill perfectly. That’s because the watch is part of a sub-collection that focuses on better legibility and lume. They have definitely accomplished that with this handsome watch.
The Bell & Ross BR 03-92 Grey Lum is done in Bell & Ross’s iconic square-shape. The pilot watch is inspired by cockpit instrumentation and measures 42 mm wide. While the case is square, the dial is round, making it resemble even more fully a gauge in a cockpit panel. The case is stain-polished steel and the dial is a dark anthracite grey with a sunray pattern that captures the light. The hands and indices are large—again for improved legibility—with Arabic numerals for 3:00, 6:00, 9:00, and 12:00. A small date window is located between 4:00 and 5:00. The numerals, indices, and hands, which are metal skeletonized, are treated with Super-LumiNova C3, making them glow brightly in the darkest settings.
The watch is built around a calibre BR-CAL.302 automatic mechanical movement that offers hours, minutes, seconds, and date functions. The sapphire crystal has an anti-reflective coating, and the watch is water-resistant up to 100 meters. The straps, a grey-green calfskin and an ultra-resilient black synthetic feature a stain-polished steel buckle.
The Grey Lum is a solid addition to your wardrobe, but as noted it’s in the dark that this watch really shines—or more appropriately, glows. The luminescence is clearly visible, and because of the large size, the watch is very visible. This really is a piece that you have to see in the dark to truly appreciate. Bell & Ross sells the BR 03-92 Grey Lum for $3,400.
