Frederique Constant Launch Hybrid Manufacture 3.0 and Raise the Bar on Smartwatches

It was just three years ago that Swiss watchmaker Frederique Constant (FC) raised eyebrows and standards alike by introducing the world’s first chronological smartwatch. Now they’re back with Hybrid Manufacture 3.0. The stunning timepiece puts a manufacture calibre, smartwatch functionality and calibre analytics all in one place, marking another world first for the luxury brand. To commemorate the landmark milestone, FC hosted a launch party in New York City with actor and enthusiast Mark Ruffalo on hand as a special guest. Ruffalo, along with a legion of partygoers, caught the first look at FC’s horological masterstroke. Consider us a tad jealous to say the least.

To call the Hybrid Manufacture 3.0 impressive would be putting it mildly. Indeed, this is basically a watch straight out our wildest fantasies. After all, who would argue with pairing top shelf Swiss design and smartwatch functionality? Furthermore, that built-in tech isn’t just tracking your health, but the watch’s own metrics as well. More to the point, it measures calibre rate, amplitude and beat error on a daily basis. Suffice to say, this is 21st century horological innovation at its finest. Or, as FC puts it, this is “watch 3.0”.

From the new Hybrid Manufacture line-up, expect three different versions and then a fourth, special edition model that’s limited to 888 pieces. Two of the versions tout polished stainless steel 42mm cases with either silver or navy on the guilloché dial, which hovers beneath convex sapphire crystal. The third and slightly more expensive model features a rose-gold case in lieu of stainless steel. The limited edition model hosts dark gray on the guilloché dial, with luminous, silver coated hands.

Each model in the range is water resistant up to 5 ATM, able to run for 7+ days on a single battery charge, and equipped with a premium alligator strap (in black or blue). Also featured is see-through sapphire crystal on the caseback, allowing viewers a glimpse of the hybrid magic therein. That magic, by the way, is developed, produced and assembled entirely in-house by Frederique Constant.

In addition to aesthetic brilliance and timeless sophistication, the Hybrid Manufacture 3.0 delivers smartwatch basics in steadfast style. A pusher button on the left hand side of the case utilises Bluetooth technology to sync the watch with a Hybrid app on your mobile device for seamless access to your metrics. Smartwatch functions are also displayed on the watch itself in the 12 o’clock counter. On the fitness front, you get activity tracking, sleep monitoring and dynamic coaching.

However, don’t forget that the watch is also tracking its own fitness. Specifically, that extra dose of tech allows each Hybrid Manufacture to automatically analyse its own calibre health every day at 4:00 am. The watch then relays the data to the Hybrid app in the form of graphs and charts, additionally providing a red or green indicator to let you know whether the calibre is operating as intended or malfunctioning.

Every Hybrid Manufacture comes in a magnificent wooden winder box. Inside the box, you’ll find a removable charger for the smartwatch and a winder rotating mechanism to charge the mainspring in the mechanical calibre. The charger is removable and good for travel–all that’s required is a USB cable and you’re good to go.

Celebrating modern sophistication in every sense of the concept, the Hybrid Manufacture 3.0 is as glorious to gaze upon as it is essential to implement. It’s therefore no wonder that guests like Mark Ruffalo were bowled over by the watch’s design and functionality at the recent NYC launch. As true lovers of both technology and horology ourselves, we can’t wait to one of these savvy beauties on our wrists. For between $3,495 USD and $3,795 USD, you can do the same.
