IWC’s Latest Sport Pilot’s Watch Was Designed by a 12-Year-Old
Laureus Sport for Good has a stated mission of “using sport to transform the lives of children and young people and end violence, discrimination, and disadvantage.” That’s a noble cause, but, as you can imagine, it’s not a cheap goal to achieve. Fortunately, every year since 2006 IWC has created a special edition timepiece that supports this charity. This year’s version of the IWC Laureus Sport Pilot’s Watch not only has the distinction of supporting a worthy cause, it’s also the first time that the timepiece will feature the Laureus Blue dial and a case made of scratch-resistant ceramic.

That ceramic case measures 42mm and has to go through a special and complex manufacturing process to achieve that iconic blue colour. The process involves using powdered zirconium oxide mixed with other metallic oxides. That mixture is then shaped and sintered in a furnace. Held within the case is a cockpit-style dial with black-outlined sword hands and large Arabic numerals—all of which also feature Super-LumiNova treatment. The central seconds hand is red-tipped and there is a date window at 3 o’clock.
The caseback is made of titanium and features an engraving of the winning artwork that was submitted to the annual drawing contest that is done in partnership with Laureus Sport for Good. This year’s art is titled “Vivir en Armonia,” and was submitted by Melissa Mejia Castilla, a 12-year-old from Colombia.
Powering the watch is IWC’s manufacture Caliber 3211. The automatic movement has a power reserve of five days. The crown is screw down, which gives the watch a water resistance up to 100 metres. If you want an incredible watch, and you want to support a good cause, IWC’s Laureus Sport for Good Pilot’s Watch is available now in IWC boutiques and authorized dealers. The watch is limited to 750 pieces and retails at $6,250.
