The Netherlands has a storied history of exploration. For centuries, the Dutch were noted for their sailing, travelling around the Cape to Indonesia and crossing the Atlantic to New York and Surinam. With the advent of flight, the Dutch became the first to provide European Air Service to the United States. Maen is celebrating that achievement with a tribute Skymaster 38 watch.
Named after the aircraft used in the first transatlantic flight between Amsterdam and New York, the Douglas DC-4 Skymaster, the Skymaster 38 is a vintage sized chronograph measuring 38mm. Designed with a narrow bezel, the watch also features a Swiss made ETA 2894-2 automatic movement.
The caliber has 37 jewels and uses a Swiss lever escapement as a regulator. The 12H GMT bi-directional bezel allows you to track an additional time zone—another reference to the transatlantic flight, where pilots and passengers needed to know Amsterdam and New York times.
The Skymaster 38 also offers a chronograph feature that is controlled with the two buttons on either side of the crown. Waterproof up to 5ATM, the Skymaster is made of surgical grade stainless steel and features a box domes hesalite glass crystal. It has a 48 hour power reserve. Pricing starts at EU€799,00.
