As one might expect, Italian watchmaker Officine Panerai came dressed to impress at this year’s SIHH in Geneva. To celebrate its partnership with the Luna Rossa Challenge Sailing Team, the brand introduced the Panerai America’s Cup Submersible Luna Rossa. Constructed from Carbotech material, the 47mm dive watch is as lightweight as it is durable, and furthermore bolstered by striking shades of dark grey. Naturally, each member of the Luna Rossa Sailing team will be wearing this horological stunner during the 36th America’s Cup in 2021.
More than a sturdy material, Carbotech pays direct homage to the carbon fibre used on the hull of the Luna Rossa AC75 “Double Mainsail.” Along similar lines, the watch incorporates actual pieces of Luna Rossa sailcloth within the distinguished grey dial. Panerai’s latest is also water resistant to 300m and powered by in-house Caliber P.9010/GMT movement with a three-day power reserve. Etched onto the screw-down titanium caseback is an almost avant-garde depiction of a sailboat, which comes flanked by engravings.
True to its robust aesthetic, the Panerai America’s Cup Submersible Luna Rossa encapsulates the thrill of sailing upon the high seas. You can either buy it for $21,600USD or try and get in with the Luna Rossa Challenge Sailing Team. Whatever you think is easiest.
