Representing the first Panerai watch to combine a California dial (i.e. a dial that includes both Roman and Arabic numerals) with a Luminor case, the Luminor California 8 Days DLC (PAM00779) is a premium stunner. Distinguishing it from the herd are a variety of brand benchmarks, along with a new cuff strap of untreated leather. Sturdy and sophisticated, the timepiece emanates with masculine allure. Pair it with a sharp get up and prepare to own the night.
Delivering the utmost tier of resilience, Panerai’s Luminor titanium case is coated with Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC), and then treated to a matt anthracite finish. As a result, the case is uniform in appearance, highly resistant to scratches and corrosion, and water resistant to 30 bar. Also coated in DLC is the bridge lever device, which protects the winding crown.
Housed within the trusty case is a black California dial. Harkening back to some of the brand’s earliest designs, the unconventional dial fuses Arabic and Roman numerals to eye-catching effect. Indeed, should you strap this one up, expect at least a few double takes to fly in your direction, followed by enthusiastic nods of approval.
Powering the Luminor California 8 Days DLC is hand-wound P.5000 calibre, which was entirely developed and produced in the Manufacture in Neuchâtel. The 4.5 mm thick movement features an extensive power reserve of eight days, and a balance that oscillates at 21,600 vibrations per hour. Meanwhile, the movement’s wheelwork is almost entirely concealed by a large brush-finished plate with diamond polished chamfering.
Rounding out the watch’s masculine charms is an untreated leather strap with contrasting beige stitching and a DLC-coated buckle. The strap comes available in traditional form, or you can rock it military-style by converting it into a cuff strap using a complimentary accessory. To do so is to put a layer of premium leather between the case-back and your wrist. Naturally, the leather itself will develop a rich patina over time. Call it the unique icing on an already distinctive, and resoundingly masculine, cake.
