Panerai Radiomir Watch Deploys in Military Green

The latest Panerai Radiomir Military features a matte green dial that reinforces the brand’s strong historical identity as the previous sole supplier of watches for the Royal Italian Navy. This new watch blends with its surroundings, despite this colour being instantly recognisable as an expression of the armed forces.

There are four Panerai Radiomir Military watches, each offering individual functions, dimensions and materials linked by the familiar matte green dial and case design.

The cushion shape characterises the case with integrated lugs, portraying the evolution of Radiomir watches from the 1940s – the period when Panerai timepieces were developed with the essential functions and precision required of commandos. The military history has moved into the background with added luxury elements for civilian use.

Three models feature cases 45 mm in diameter, made of AISI 316L steel, and one model with a black sandblasted ceramic case measuring 48 mm in diameter. The dense matte green colour is non-reflective and is protected by convex sapphire glass.

Panerai Radiomir Military is available with several different movements. The Radiomir 45 mm is fitted with the P.4000 calibre, Panerai’s thinnest automatic movement, and it has two hands and a small seconds hand. The P. 4001 is a model developed to supply additional information such as a second timezone and am/pm indication with the power reserve displayed on the back.

The P. 4002 version shows the power reserve indicator on the dial. Each of these three automatic movements has a bi-directional off-centred micro-rotor in tungsten alloy and a power reserve of three days.

The only watch to have a hand-wound mechanical movement is the Radiomir – 48 mm, which is fitted with a P.3000 calibre indicating hours, minutes and small seconds. Panerai built all four watches in Neuchâtel, Switzerland. Water-resistance comes in at 100 metres.

Each watch is presented in a box of satin-finished green cherry wood and accompanied by a spare strap. The original strap is Italian “Ponte Vecchio” calf leather with a polished steel clasp buckle. The additional strap is canvas.
