Seiko’s Presage Sharp Edged Series Welcomes Four GMT Models

In Partnership with Seiko

Once known as a trailblazer of quartz watches, Seiko is proving themselves no less formidable in the mechanical realm. For proof of the fact, look no further than the brand’s distinguished Presage Sharp Edged Series. With its colourful textured dial and angular case construction, each piece is an instant sight to behold, which isn’t to mention the powerful mechanics. With the addition of four GMT models, those desirable qualities take on even more functionality.

Consisting of four new models, Seiko’s GMT range picks up where its mighty predecessor left off. Holdover features include a distinctive dial display, which incorporates a Japanese Asanoha or hemp leaf pattern to weave a textural tapestry with nature-based underpinnings. Flanking that are the flat lines and hard angles of each stainless steel case. It all drives home a truly modern aesthetic whilst simultaneously imparting a multi-dimensional effect.

Through an eight beat-per-second GMT Calibre 6R64 and adjoining features, each new model forges a path of its own. A GMT hand emanates from the dial display and delivers visual punctuation by way of its unique colour. Like its fellow markers, the hand is coated in Lumibrite for absolute legibility. When used in tandem with the adjustable 24-hour hand, it can function as a dual time indicator, even as the minute and seconds hands continue to mark time. Speaking of duality, the two-toned dial rings separate night and day hours at a mere glance.

For travellers and collectors alike, Seiko’s latest range wraps fashion and functionality into a seamless package. In addition to the GMT hand and two-toned dial ring, each model features a date sub-dial at six o’clock and a power reserve indicator at nine o’clock. Other mainstays include water resistance to 10 bar, a 45-hour power reserve (approximately), crystal sapphire protection, a pull-out crown, and an exhibition case-back. Then we have core tenets like the textural dial and angular case design, which are every bit as sharp-edged as the name would suggest.

Here’s a closer look at the collection, which is currently available in Australia through select Seiko retailers and Seiko’s boutique website:

Exclusive to the Seiko Boutique, this eye-catching model employs the reddish-brown dial colour of Hihada-iro. One will find a similar colour on the bark of a Japanese cypress tree, which served as a direct source of inspiration. It’s a quintessential example of how the range blends cultural heritage with powerful mechanics and brilliant aesthetics.

Already the stuff of modern legend, Seiko’s Presage Sharp Edged Series has managed to pack even more dimension into its iconic framework. The GMT hand and adjoining accents provide for an instant dose of both signature detail and functional purpose. Despite the inclusion of new features, however, the range nevertheless retains its minimalist veneer.
