TAG Heuer Formula 1 Senna Special Edition Release Info

There are few names in world motorsports bigger than Ayrton Senna. From the moment the Brazillian racecar driver slipped behind the wheel, his talent was undeniable, but it would take Senna until one fateful day in 1991 to seal his legacy. On November 3rd, faced with a challenging Adelaide street circuit drenched with rain, history was rewritten. Despite officials stopping the race on lap 16 due to safety concerns, Senna pushed forward becoming the youngest ever three-time world champion, securing seven pole positions in the process. Now, 30 years on, iconic watchmaker TAG Heuer is celebrating the milestone moment.

Intrinsically linked to the art of speed, the new TAG Heuer Formula 1 Senna Special Edition timepiece pays homage to one of sports’ greatest titans. Emblazoned in Senna’s signature yellow and black, the 2021 quartz edition features the famous double S, which crowns the bezel at 12 o’clock, alongside the Senna name. Look closer and you can find the symbol around represented on the grey anthracite dial, incorporated in the 6 o‘clock subdial.

Built to last, the TAG Heuer Formula 1 Senna Special Edition also features an ultra-resistance black certain bezel. Much like the dial, this is highlighted by the trademark yellow motif, further playing into the Senna celebration. In case there was any doubt just who the watch is designed in commemoration of, once you flip it over, you’re greeted to an image of the Brazilian driver’s iconic helmet engraved on the caseback, alongside a special engraving of the words “SENNA SPECIAL EDITION”.

But as much as this timepiece is a celebration of achievements, it’s not to the driver’s unwavering quest for the unobtainable. The number 400 is engraved on the bezel, which TAG Heuer says is a subtle reference to the 400 km/h speed that has never been reached in Formula 1.

As far as collaborations go, TAG Heuer and Aryton Senna make perfect sense. Two icons linked by one shared desire to climb the impossible mountain of perfection, TAG Heuer and Aryton Senna make for the finest of friends. The 2021 TAG Heuer Formula 1 Senna Special Edition is a fitting example of that. The new timepiece is available from November 2021 and is priced at AUD$3,350.
