The Negroni-Inspired Bell & Ross Bellytanker Collaboration

There is nothing better than a good negroni. The bitter booze-filled cocktail is a staple amongst the high-brow types and thanks to a new collaboration between The Rake and Bell & Ross, you can wear one. After teaming up for the COVID-19 Solidarity Auction to raise money for organisations like the NHS in England and the Red Cross in Italy, The Rake and Bell & Ross raised $280,000 for the cause, with the Negroni cocktail played a role in that endeavour. The popular Italian cocktail, which is made with one part gin, one part vermouth rosso, and one part Campari, garnished with an orange peel, soon became the inspiration for a 50-piece limited edition watch that pulls on the colours of the drink for its style.

The rake x bell ross 4

The Rake X Bell & Ross limited edition watch is actually a Bellytanker model. Made from stainless steel, the case measures 41mm and comes with an ultra-curved sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating. The case back is also a sapphire crystal and features a special engraving. Inside the case is a BR—Cal.301 automatic movement with 42 hours of power reserve. The watch features hours, minutes, and small seconds functionality along with date, chronograph, central chronograph seconds, and tachymeter. It also has 100m of water resistance. The dial is where you begin to see the Negroni origins shine through.

“We discovered that a Negroni possesses a color unique in the world,” says Bell & Ross. “It is neither red nor orange, and depending on how the light hits, it can have an amber halo and even pockets of deep ruby red.” The watch makes use of a sunray finish and multiple layers of lacquer to recreate that color in both the dial and the bezel. The band is suede and matches the color. Bell & Ross also worked with WM Brown X WOLF to make a special watch roll for this timepiece. The watch roll features brown leather and is lined with Negroni tweed.

Only a handful of these watches were made, and as you might expect, they’ve already sold out. You can, however, register your interest in getting in on a future release. The watch inspired by a cocktail sold for $4,500.
