“The best way to envision the future of fine-watchmaking is by creating it.” Those words come from Benoît Mintiens, the creative mind behind Ressence. Making good on his vision is the new Ressence Type 2 Smart Crown Watch, which has been years in the making. Representing the best of both worlds, the watch combines an electronic smart crown with mechanical features. Indeed, the average smartwatch and its tiny screen already feels dated by comparison.
Self-sufficient is the operative term when it comes to the Ressence Type 2 Smart Crown Watch. Double tap on the crystal and the proprietary e-Crown digitally and automatically sets to the right time, even after the power reserve has run down. Thanks to built-in photovoltaic cells, the Type 2 powers the e-Crown by way of light energy. The e-Crown can also register two separate time zones and alternate between them, making the Type 2 an ideal travel watch.
Under the skin is customised ETA 2892/A movement, which comes fitted with the ROCS 2 system and e-Crown. It’s worth noting that the mechanical movement works on its own, and doesn’t rely on non-mechanical power. The Type 2 also features a 45mm titanium case with anthracite PVD coating, Super-LumiNova indexes on the dial, and the choice of either fabric or leather strap. Welcome to the future of horology.
