$56,000 Urwerk UR-100 T-Rex Channels an Apex Predator
There’s a reason why the terrifying Tyrannosaurus Rex bears a kingly name. Dinosaur fans love the apex predator, and the rest of the dinosaur world bow to this beast. In the horological world, there’s a T-rex that all other watches bow down to as well: the UR-100 T-Rex from Urwerk.

Swiss watch manufacturer Urwerk is known for making stunning timepieces that are not only unique but unforgettable as well. One such example is their UR-100 model. Now Urwerk is taking inspiration from the prehistoric king of dinosaurs to make a limited edition of that watch.
The UR-100 T-Rex features a 41mm case made of bronze and completed with a claw-like shape that is reminiscent of the dinosaur’s own claws and teeth. The case has a scaled look as well, giving the watch the tough, armoured appearance that the T-Rex no doubt would have had as well. This look is carried out in a special alloy of bronze that grants the metal a darker colour.
The diamond faces are all precision milled into the case, and then the whole thing is sandblasted and burnished to age it and make it look like the fossil remnants of its namesake. The domes sapphire crystal covers a tonal face with neon green indices.
Three satellite indications, each one of which represents four hour increments, rotate on the carousel to symbolically display the rotation of celestial bodies only in a miniaturized representation. Specifically, the movement of these satellites is meant to display both the distance travelled on Earth and the distance traveled by the Earth. The case back is done in PVD-coated titanium and has a deep black finish. Inside the case is a UR 12.02 automatic movement with 40 jewels. The watch boasts a 48 hour power reserve.
