The Withings Steel HR Sport Smartwatch had to make a choice between looking good or providing functionality, and unlike many fitness tracking watches who chose function over form, the Withings Steel chose both.
Much like previous Withings smartwatches, the Steel Sport has an analogue face and can track your steps and activities, and even your sleep. But where the other Steel watches left off, the Steel Sport picks up, offering the ability to sync with your phone for several different functions. The Steel Sport makes use of your phones GPS feature to track your activities. It also estimates fitness levels via a Vo2 Max. The black-and-white screen on the 40mm round analogue face displays notifications, recent and current heart rate, distance travelled, calories burned, and the time. The smaller analogue subdial shows your progress toward your step goal. If checking your watch for any of that information just seems too tedious, you can access it all via the Withings’ Health Mate app on your smartphone.
You can also select from a long list of activities to track on your watch—everything from Zumba to running, dancing, walking, swimming, volleyball, and yoga. Using the app, you can add or delete activities from the list. That’s a lot of tracking, and the good news is that the battery is up to it. Withings reports that the battery has a 25-day life.
There’s no need to make the choice between a good looking watch that can’t do much, or a watch that can do a lot but looks terrible. Withings has already made that choice for you.
