Field watches have deep roots buried in the military. Designed for tactical operations in the field and worn by elite military teams and Special Forces, military watches are functional and rugged. A good field watch can handle all kinds of conditions — wet streams, gruelling hikes and mud.
Today’s field watches are not just for the military. Military-chic is in, and a field watch has plenty of styles and is built for the outdoors too. A good field watch is a must-have clothing accessory for your arsenal.
One of our favourite field watches was designed by Los Angeles-based watchmaker Weiss—the 38mm Field Watch. What do we like about this watch? It is a classically-styled field watch that is designed for everyday wear. That means that you can wear it with casual chinos during the workweek or pair it with a pair of denim for off-the-clock fun.
The 38mm Weiss Field Watch features a self-winding Caliber 2100 automatic movement. This movement was handmade by Weiss. It was designed using more than over 150 Swiss parts and was assembled in Weiss’s Los Angeles shop. The hand-polished case was machined from stainless steel. Bevelled sapphire crystals line the front and back of the case. This adds durability and showcases the beauty of the movement within the case.
The ideal field watch should combine durability, legibility and simplicity. The 38mm Weiss Field Watch does this very well. The hands feature luminous Super-Luminova paint that provides superior readability in the dark.
The straps are made from natural canvas material and feature tonal stitching. There are three colorway options to choose from— blue, black and silver.
