No time to die seamaster

James Bond’s Actual OMEGA Seamaster from No Time to Die Fetches $378,000 at Auction

Watch fans were both stirred, and a little shaken, by the news that an OMEGA worn by James Bond was heading to auction. With the results of Christie’s Sixty Years of James Bond: Part I – Live Auction returning overnight, a final price for the timepiece has been realised at GBP 226,800 (approx. $377,874.21 AUD).

Each ale of Bond memorabilia is an event and those that were sold at Christie’s were done so in celebration of sixty years of Bond movies, a particularly special occasion. While there are simply too many individual items to list here, we recommend checking out the full slate of investments that includes a number of Bond cars, boats and bikes up for grabs, but for us, it was this watch that’s the real gem of the auction. And it’s not just any watch, this is the Omega Seamaster that Daniel Craig wore in No Time to Die.

Ask your grandad and he’ll no doubt remember James Bond as a Rolex man. Ian Fleming was keen for his character to wear the author’s favourite watch brand and the early films maintained that relationship. But it’s now sixty years since Bond made his screen debut in Dr. No, the movie where Sean Connery first wore a Rolex Submariner. Fast forward to the ’90s and Pierce Brosnan portrayed an updated, chiselled and suave version of the British agent. GoldenEye‘s costume designer Lindy Hemming had a new take on 007’s timepiece. As she said, “I was convinced that Commander Bond, a naval man, a diver and a discreet gentleman of the world would wear the Seamaster with the blue dial.” And so began the Bond and OMEGA collaboration.

Sure, there has been a long and storied history of James Bond watches over the years, but from that point on, the Queen’s favourite spy has since worn watches from the Seamaster line, with the OMEGA Seamaster Professional 300M being the go-to model.

Daniel Craig‘s later interpretation of Bond gave the franchise a much-needed refresh, dropping his dated one-liners in favour of a more grounded and human agent. Crucially, Craig also had some input into the design of the watch that he’d wear in No Time to Die, making this model even more desirable.

The auction version of OMEGA’s iconic diver features a lightweight titanium case and its in-house Calibre 8806 automatic movement. The understated black dial is paired with an eye-catching and vintage-looking faux patina lume. There’s also 300M of water resistance, a helium release valve and a utilitarian mesh bracelet.

Famously, No Time to Die was Craig’s swansong, the final movie in his tenure as Bond, and yet another reason why this watch is so special. As well as this stunning timepiece, the winner of the bidding war recieved a certificate signed by Craig and two of the movie’s producers. Having been donated by EON, all proceeds of the sale were donated to charity – Time’s Up UK. Initial estimates had this stunning piece of movie memorabilia up for between £15,000 – £20,000, but the price paid exceeded those at GBP 226,800.
