The latest addition to the adidas Originals line, the Deerupt, is an homage to the classic adidas Marathon. Released in 1979, the Marathon featured a signature mesh support structure on the midsole. The idea behind the mesh was to provide uniform compression and rebound. That same mesh technology showed up in shoes during the early ‘80s. The mesh made its way into the adidas archives, where designers have recently been going to find inspiration.
The Deerupt—a name derived from “disrupt” and “erupt”—takes that mesh and uses it as a design element for the entire shoe, from sole to uppers. Designers also looked to the digital world for inspiration. The result was a toe-down design that came about because of how adidas shoes are shown on Instagram.
Using ultra-lightweight material, adidas modernized version of the Marathon features knit uppers as well as zoned foam pockets to help the shoe conform to the wearer. The Deerupt also features the adidas mustache detail on the heel.
Available soon, the Deerupt comes in several color combinations, all of which feature the mesh design. The most recognizable of these combinations is the “Solar Bird” colorway, which mixes the iconic adidas colors Solar Red and Bluebird.
