As British garage rockers The Libertines once sang, ‘I’ll confess all of my sins after several large gins.’ It’s fortunate then for their sake that they haven’t had the chance to head down to Taylor’s Rooftop Bar over the last couple of weeks, where Wednesday nights have played host to the BULLDOG Gin pop-up bar.
They say you can’t teach an old dog new tricks, but BULLDOG Gin is the young pup eager to prove itself. Named in honour of Winston Churchill, the human embodiment of the British bulldog spirit, BULLDOG Gin was launched in 2007 as a super-premium London dry gin. It’s a gin that’s as British as, well, the British bulldog itself, sourced from ingredients throughout the mother country and a blend of 12 exotic botanical elements from further ashore.
We were invited down to Taylor’s to sample the BULLDOG take on the classic gin and tonic, where we were the given the choice of a lavender, lychee, cinnamon or juniper berry garnish. Each brought a subtle edge to the crisp BULLDOG flavour profile, though the cinnamon was a personal favourite.
