Following the slumber of winter, comes the first bursts of spring and a brand new gin from Sydney distillery, Archie Rose Distilling Co.
Archie Rose x Horisumi – Spring is the third release in a series of 4 rare gins distilled in collaboration with Japanese tattoo artist Kian Forreal, who operates under the traditional Japanese tattoo name of Shodai Horisumi. Each of the rare gins celebrates the uniqueness of a Japanese season, and the new Horisumi – Spring celebrates the spirit and atmosphere of Japan’s most beautiful and fragrant season.
Horisumi – Spring offers tones of white musk, Australian-grown yuzu leaf with its unique herbaceous and citric accents and the supple sweetness of fresh red shiso, resulting in a bold but subtly nuanced gin. Horisumi – Spring begins sweet on the palate and builds in intensity as floral notes burst into life on the finish. The gin’s label, hand-illustrated by Horisumi, depicts the hare, or ‘usagi’, a symbol of fertility in Japan and a trusted talisman against bad luck. He sits observing a bloom of vivid cherry blossom or ‘sakura’, dancing in the spring breeze.
Horisumi – Spring is perfect to drink in a classic G&T with Fentimans Light Tonic and rockmelon or mandarin. If you’re up for something different, try the Gokouyo cocktail with Horisumi – Spring, yuzusuhu, elderflower liquer, lime and apple juice and sugar.
Archie Rose x Horisumi – Spring is available now for $99 per bottle. As with previous Horisumi releases, the first 200 bottles sold will come hand-wrapped in a custom-made Japanese furoshiki wrap featuring the individual bottle number and spring kanji.
