Fifty years ago, a man took a small step that represented a giant leap for mankind. Now that small step is inspiring another giant leap: Budweiser has released its Discovery Reserve American Red Lager—a limited edition beer that celebrates the 50th anniversary of the moon landing.
The Discovery Reserve is brewed by former U.S. Air Force Captain and current Budweiser Brewmaster Karissa Norrington. The recipe was inspired by a recipe that was originally used at the time of the Apollo Moon Missions. The beer is made from a medium-roast barley malt with a light hoppy aroma. The flavour is accentuated by a touch of toffee. The beer finishes off with a sharp taste.
Ricardo Marques, the VP of Marketing Core & Value Brands for Anheuser-Busch, said, “This Bud’s for those who challenged the odds and made the impossible possible. Budweiser Discovery Reserve is our tribute to this epic moment in history, one that will certainly continue to inspire generations of present and future explorers.” Budweiser is also taking this opportunity to continue its participation with Folds of Honor, which supports those who serve. Budweiser will donate USD$1 to the foundation for every case of Discovery Reserve sold.
It’s not just the beer that pays tribute to the Apollo missions; it’s also the bottle. Decorated with 11 stars representing the 11 Apollo missions, the bottle will also have alternating caps that represent the actual footsteps on the Moon and the future footsteps on Mars.
