Starring Matthew McConaughey as retiring marijuana kingpin Mickey Pearson, “The Gentlemen” is being hailed as a return to form for director Guy Ritchie. In addition to its charming performances and thrilling violence, the film happens to feature gratuitous shots of delicious whisky. It’s then only natural that spirits club Flaviar pay tribute with 420 bottles of 23-year-old Speyside Scotch. And like a number of Ritchie’s best outings, Deer, Bear & Moose: The Gentlemen unravels in layers and renders quite the unforgettable impression.
Flaviar members will recognise the name Deer, Bear & Moose as the club’s exclusive brand, which culls from rare and mysterious barrels. To date, Flaviar has released 17 popular expressions from major distilleries such as Bunnahabhain and Auchentoshan. This time around, the club put 23-year-old Glentauchers juice in the bottle. If previous releases are anything to go by, it will sell out fast and with good reason.
After watching “The Gentlemen” film and scoring a taste of its namesake whisky, we can confirm both are a sensory delight. A zesty nose of apple, grain, chocolate, and molasses gives way to a full and wonderful body, yielding warm notes of green apple, pear, and white chocolate. On the finish, we detected smooth barley and hints of espresso. Here’s hoping the movie is just as great!
