There’s no denying that gin is back in vogue – whether it be the cool factor of imagined afternoons spent on well-kept lawns scoffing cucumber sandwiches or the fact that it’s just so goddamn tasty (especially the good stuff), people everywhere are getting amongst it and trying new ways to enjoy the flavoursome spirit.
For five generations now, the Hayman’s family have been producing top-quality gin, however it wasn’t until 2004 that Hayman’s as a standalone brand was born. Bartenders the world over rejoiced in their version of Old Tom gin, a viscous, sweeter style of gin for which many an old cocktail recipe called, but had been largely unavailable in modern times up until that point. Then bars started to stock their London Dry, as well as the Family Reserve,n Sloe Gin and Royal Dock (their navy strength offering).
To further celebrate this already much-loved brand down under, The Lord Dudley in Sydney’s Woollahra is hosting Hayman’s Gin Supper Club for the month of October. Guests can enjoy English fare paired with Hayman’s cocktails in the picturesque garden restaurant – $25 gets you an entree, $40 a main (both including matched drinks) or have both courses with drinks for $60. The Dudley, just like Hayman’s Gin, is a family-owned and run venture, and given its old-word English charm, it’s a pairing as obvious as a French 75 and cured salmon.
