In a move that will have antipodean whisky enthusiasts rejoicing to no end, one of the world’s most popular single malts, and the #1 selling single malt in Australia in 2015, has returned to our shores after a three-year hiatus.
The Glenlivet 12 Year Old is not just an iconic whisky, it’s bloody delicious. Favoured for its rich yet balanced nose and palate, it is one of the best bang-for-buck options you’ll find, and has attracted more than just a cult following since its initial release in 1935.
“Australians love The Glenlivet 12 Year Old and there is strong demand for Scotch whisky across the country. The single malts category alone in Australia is in strong double-digit growth at 19.7%”, says Sinea Weintz, Brand Ambassador for The Glenlivet.
This demand is what led to the product initially being pulled from the market, as the brand couldn’t keep up with the consumer’s thirst for the good stuff–a common problem for distillers as a largely unpredictable market grows around a product that takes a very long time to age before it is ready to be bottled, as we have seen recently with the gargantuan spike in Japanese whisky prices as various distillers simply ran out of barrels.
During it’s absence, there was a distinct outcry to bring the twelve year old expression back to the market, an outcry which was evidently heard by Master Distiller Alan Winchester, whom we interviewed during his visit earlier this year.
“As I travelled around the country talking to whisky enthusiasts, I was pleased to see that drinkers really enjoyed the classic Speyside flavours of The Glenlivet 12 Year Old”, he commented on the re-release.
“Now I am absolutely delighted to report that it’s back.”
The Glenlivet 12 Year Old is now available in retailers of repute, with an RRP of AUD$85.
