Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare Port Ellen has been carefully crafted in small batches using three “irreplaceable” Ghost whiskies and five rare malts from the Johnnie Walker Reserves.
Ghost whiskies from Caledonia and Carsebridge add layers of creamy vanilla sweetness, while malts from Mortlach Dailuaine, Cragganmore, Blair Athol and Oban deliver breaking waves of citrus, rich malt and tropical fruit flavours.
The flavours are balanced with the treasured ghost whiskies from Port Ellen, which bring a unique maritime smokiness that lingers in the long warming finish. The term “Ghost whiskies” refers to the highly sought after Islay single malt, which comes from the Port Ellen distillery that closed its doors in 1983.
Talking about the famed distillery, Australian National Whisky Ambassador, Simon McGoram said “Port Ellen has been silent for 35 years and in this time its Scotch has become some of the most sought-after on the planet. The release of Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare Port Ellen is the first step towards bringing Port Ellen back to life, and we aspire to begin crafting whiskies from this iconic Scottish shoreline once again in the near future.”
Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare Port Ellen is presented in a custom design dark blue bottle, showing the distilleries used in the blend, on a map of Scotland. The whisky is available now for RRP $480 for a 750ml bottle (46% ABV).
