At their home in Scotland, a small team of Johnnie Walker’s expert blenders are conducting over 100 experiments that push the boundaries of taste and flavour. Previous experiments helped create the iconic Johnnie Walker Black Label.
Two of their curimpressive blends are the Johnnie Walker Blenders’ Batch Rum Cask Finish and the Blenders’ Batch Espresso Roast, both guaranteed to satisfy refined palettes.
The Rum Cask Finish is the result of an experiment to create a relaxed and easy-going Scotch that possessed smooth and spicy flavours. By finishing the whisky in casks that previously held Caribbean pot still rum, Johnnie Walker developed a Scotch tingling with layers of exotic fruits, sweetness and a little spice.
The Espresso Roast Scotch involved distilling whiskies with barley roasted more heavily than ever before. The experiment created malt with incredibly rich, dark chocolate notes. The intense flavour was then balanced with other whiskies matured in rejuvenated casks to add a light spiciness and first fill Bourbon casks ensured a subtle vanilla sweetness.
The result is a rich Scotch blend, with deep warmth and confidently punchy notes of rich coffee and dark chocolate that works brilliantly served neat in an espresso cup.
Overseen by Master Blender Jim Beveridge, this small team continues to explore new flavour combinations and techniques that will excite new and seasoned whisky lovers alike. Bottles of limited-edition Johnnie Walker Blenders’ Batch Rum Cask Finish and Johnnie Walker Blenders’ Batch Espresso Roast will be available to purchase at Dan Murphy’s and BWS from January 2018 (RRP $55 for a 500ml bottle).
