Having spent the past eight years perfecting the recipes of their core range, and setting up one of the best drinking holes in Sydney, the team behind Endeavour Brewing Co. have relaunched their delicious frothies with a bold new look: one befitting the number of awards they’ve already won.
With a strict theory that beer should be treated as wine, i.e. more than just a refreshing tipple on a summer arvo, but something complex that can be enjoyed with food, or after dinner, Endeavour’s brewers embrace slight seasonal changes in their brews, and draw on Mother Nature’s imperfections to rely on the freshest, most honest-tasting beer that can be brewed.
One of the best examples of this philosophy is the Reserve Amber Ale, our favourite from the range, which incorporates a fresh, hoppy nose with malty caramel notes at the front palate and a lengthy finish. This is a beer that belongs as much on tap at the local as it does on the table next to casserole dishes filled with slow-cooked winter fare.
The brainchild of Ben Kooyman, a brewer with a zest for the unique and a fervent desire to steer his carbonated offerings off the path of normalcy, the core range encompasses something for everybody, though each recipe has been skillfully tweaked to best represent the ingredients that were available on hand at the time of production.
Along with Endeavour’s Head Brewer, John Bogan (aka JB), Kooyman travels across Australia once a year to meet with barley and hop growers. Spending time with the farmers who make their beer possible is the duo’s key to making some of the best ales in the country, and a recipe for success which they’ve embraced since the start.
“While other brewers try to replicate their flavours for consistency year after year, we truly believe that Mother Nature is our master brewer and as such, we welcome evolving tastes in our beer”, says Kooyman.
JB adds: ““Once we locate the best ingredients, we then perfect our recipe and create the most flavoursome, well-balanced range of Endeavour beers that maximise the best of that year’s harvest.”
While you’re likely to have seen at least some of these refreshments on several taps and in various bottle shops, the epicentre of their operation is housed in the centre of The Rocks, Sydney’s historic playground, where guests regularly sample the brews, or while away afternoons sipping on their pints and enjoying the premium yet laidback feel of the Endeavour Tap Rooms.
