Farewell Winx: The Greatest Racehorse to Ever Grace the Turf

The 13th April 2019, or better known as The Championships Day 2 – Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes Day, in the world of thoroughbred racing, will be a memorable day in Australian sporting history, regardless of the result. For those who have been living under a rock (or who are yet to experience 4G), Saturday sees the farewell of a not only an equine champion, but a sporting great.

No matter your sporting preferences or political views (on thoroughbred racing), there is no denying the enormity of what Winx has achieved; 32 consecutive victories, AUD$24,016,676 in prize money and an average winning margin of 2.55 lengths. Makybe Diva’s prize money record of AUD$14,526,690 and Black Caviar’s unbeaten streak of 25 wins, both were (and remain) extraordinary feats – and then Winx came galloping along.

So if you find yourself in Sydney this weekend, do yourself a favour and buy a ticket while you still can, because we can guarantee you that you’ll be hard pressed to find an atmosphere like the one sure to be present at Royal Randwick this Saturday.

Not only is Saturday the farewell of a sporting immortal, there are also a number of extracurricular activities to get caught up in with a few of our favourites including:

Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes Day

The Mews – Eat Street

If you’re like us and love food, glorious food then The Mews – Eat Street is where you need to be. With a plethora of cuisines at your fingertips, you’ll be hard-pressed to match the flavoursome offerings of some of Sydney’s most reputable food trucks.

TAB Bet Barn

There’s nothing like that winning feeling, especially when you see those silks flash past the finish line first. We, of course, are advocates for gambling responsibly, so it’s very important you don’t forget that, but make sure you check out the TAB Bet Barn where you can sip on a refreshing Heineken whilst enjoying the view from a dedicated platform.

The Red Bull Race Club

We all love a boogie, particularly after a hard day of looking flawless and studying the form guide, therefore, The Red Bull Race Club is a no brainer. They’ll be sure to sort you out with that energy boost that you will almost definitely be needing. And did we mention there’ll be a DJ spinning all of your favourite tunes? You’re welcome.

Head to the link below for everything you need to know about The Champions Day 2 and we’ll see you there, royal blue in hand! If you haven’t read our guide on race day dos and don’ts, check it out here.
