Basketball royalty Shaquille O’Neal is heading to Australia. In addition to his sold-out musical and speaking events, fans can now join him on the court with the four-time NBA champion hosting a three-point shootout challenge at The Star Sydney’s 24/7 Sports Bar on Friday, 26 August. Not known for his range beyond the arc; let’s hope the big fella throws down a couple of dunks for old-time’s sake.
Celebrating his first visit Down Under in over 20 years, the shootout will see five lucky locals win the chance to go up against the Laker legend in a live shootout to see who can sink the most baskets. To enter, fans will need to follow The Star Sydney (@TheStarSydney) and the 24/7 Sports Bar (@247_SportsBar) on Instagram and like and tag a friend who they think they could beat in a game of basketball in The Star’s latest post. Winners of the contest will be awarded a meet and greet with the man himself, a AU$250 gift card to spend at The StR’s 24/7 Sports bar.
In a press statement, O’Neal said he’s excited to head to our shores and mingle with the Aussie fans: “I’m very excited to be back down under for the first time in a very long time. I look forward to saying hello to my many Australian fans and seeing some of the incredible entertainment I’m sure Sydney has in store.”
Even if you aren’t participating in the challenge, fans can watch all the action live at The Star’s 24/7 Sports Bar from 3.30pm, with Shaq down for plenty of photos and fist bumps. Plus, there will be an array of discounted beverages and tasty pub classics.
In addition to the hoops, Shaq will perform as his music alter ego, DJ Diesel, at Marquee on Saturday, 27 August. Unfortunately, all tickets for the show have already been sold out.
