Can You Complete the Vengaboys Pushup Challenge?

It doesn’t sound like it would be that difficult—do about 30 pushups in just over four minutes, but chances are, you’re not going to be able to finish it. Here’s why. The challenge is set to The Vengaboys’ Up & Down. Still doesn’t sound that hard? The challenge is that you have to follow the instructions of the song. Considering all that it says is “up and down,” it still may not sound overly difficult. But give it a shot and see what you can do.

Start in a low plank position (the bottom portion of a pushup when your chest is nearest the ground and your elbows are bent past 90 degrees). Don’t let your chest, knees, or stomach touch the ground. Hold that position until the song tells you what to do. That means you’ll hold the low plank for 25 seconds until you do your first five pushups. Then back to the low plank for another minute. Then it’s time for 25 pushups. Back to the plank for another minute and then a final pushup.

It’s not the pushups that make this challenge so difficult, it’s the long spells of holding the plank position. The students of the Rising Dragon Martial Arts School gave the challenge a try and only two of the 14 participants were able to complete it fully. If you want to make it even tougher, follow the example of the two that completed the challenge and do it all on your knuckles.
