All Hail the New Krispy Kreme Cherry Ripe Doughnuts

Let’s not beat around the bush – the humble Cherry Ripe is Australia’s greatest chocolate bar. Nay, the king of all chocolate bars. Like our recently departed head of state, the Cadbury special has reigned supreme for almost 100 years, but fittingly, it’s time to crown a new ruler. Feast your eyes on the new Cherry Ripe x Krispy Kreme doughnuts.

Cadbury has confirmed that Australia’s oldest chocolate bar has joined forces with Krispy Kreme for two new releases that celebrate the rich flavours fans have come to love. Long and decadent, like a sip of champagne from a fine stemmed crystal flute, the new Cherry Ripe doughnuts are set to deliver a sweet food hit, topped off by the trademark dark chocolate and coconut accompaniment.

“This is the first time Cherry Ripe will be available as a doughnut,” Paul Chatfield, vice president of marketing ANZ at Cadbury and Cherry Ripe parent company Mondelēz International said. “We’re excited to see Cherry Ripe lovers relish in the flavour they know and love in a new and exciting way.”

As per the official announcement, the collaboration will introduce two new releases; the Cadbury Cherry Ripe Filled and the Cadbury Cherry Ripe Dipped. The former is a shell-shaped doughnut that has been dipped in a Cadbury Old Gold dark chocolate blend, loaded with a Cherry Ripe filling and finished with red truffle icing and a cute little Cherry Ripe bite on top. The second iteration is described as a “reinvigorated” version of Krispy Kreme’s classic Original Glazed Doughnut.

The Cadbury Cherry Ripe Dipped once again cops the Old Gold treatment, however, also features a mix of cherry-coconut pieces, shredded coconut and a choc ganache drizzle. As with pretty much all the experimental Krispy Kreme releases and collaborations, the new Cherry Ripe doughnuts will be available in-store and via 7-Eleven outlets.

“Cherry Ripe is an Aussie classic and a chocolate bar that many cherish,” Aimee Cutajar, head of marketing at Krispy Kreme ANZ said. “We’re excited to share this collaboration with Krispy Kreme lovers across Australia and are hoping it gives friends, families and fellow fans of Cherry Ripe a reason to come together and bond over their love for one of Aussie’s top chocolates. And if Cherry Ripe isn’t your cup of tea, there’s always someone you know who loves them so this is the perfect opportunity to surprise and delight them with the new doughnut range.”

Cutajar isn’t wrong about the Cherry Ripe’s contentious status atop our treat totem pole. With its blend of dark chocolate, cherry and coconut, the classic confectionary item has its fair share of haters. However, our position on this is firm – there are people who think the Cherry Ripe is our best chocolate bar and there are people who are wrong. The new Krispy Kreme Cadbury Cherry Ripe doughnuts are available at Krispy Kreme and in 7-Eleven stores for a limited time only.
