Kicking off at Welcome to Brunswick on Saturday, April 17 from 12pm, the Hot Sauce and Chilli Festival gives event-goers the opportunity to try and buy goodies from local makers in the hot sauce market, indulge in some extra spicy meals from the selection of participating food trucks and dig into the specially-made spicy beer paddles.

Of course, there are levels to this. The spicy beer paddles come in a range of heats, from mild to extra hot. Even better, the infamous Hot Pocket Shot will return – the drink so spicy you have to sign a waiver to try it. Among the participating hot sauce market vendors, you’ll find:

  • Melbourne Hot Sauce
  • Blonde Chilli
  • Hot Chilli Mama
  • Hell’s Breath Hot Sauce
  • Grumpy Gary’s
  • Blair’s Death Sauce
  • Uncle Mungos

Unfortunately for those looking to show up their friends, entries for the hot sauce eating contest are now closed. Those who got their applications will taste 10 of the hottest sauces on the planet and will be unable to have milk or yoghurt in between tastings to settle their tastebuds. The rules set out that they will have to finish every drop without passing out to complete the challenge. Similar to the Hot Pocket Shot, the competitors will have to sign a waiver noting they understand the physical risk of ingesting the sauce.
