Dimitri Tsilioris is possibly the most punctual man alive. At least, that’s what one can assume, given the number of watches he features on his Instagram page and website, Haulogerie. Whether it’s a classic vintage rarity or the latest piece of timekeeping technology, the enthusiastic Tsilioris has a very open obsession with horology and the styles that define one of masculinity’s most recognisable and common accessories, the humble wristwatch, and as such, has no excuse to ever be late.
We caught up with Dimitri and chatted about his new website, favourite watches and how to make friends at parties.
You’ve a known penchant for watches – what’s your daily wearer?
That’s right! I don’t actually have a daily wearer, surprisingly. Well I do, its my FitBit Charge! But I do own some pretty cool and affordable pieces. I’ve got my Sistem51, a Seiko 5 and a few vintage manually wound chronographs I wear occasionally. I’m intending to add to my “collection” soon, so keep checking my Instagram page!
Any ‘holy grail’ watches you’d give up a limb to have for a day?
Where do I start? I normally look at “holy grail” watches as being something I’d give an arm and a leg for, and even with those restrictions I still find myself listing well over 10 watches as being worthy enough! But if I had to pick right now it’d be the following in no particular order:
– Chopard L.U.C Perpetual Calendar Chronograph
– Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Double Balance Wheel Openworked in gold
– Angelus U30 Tourbillon Rattrapante
– A. Lange & Söhne Datograph Perpetual Calendar
What men’s style trend makes you cringe?
To be honest with you I don’t really follow men’s style trends. I’m no “fashionista”. I don’t care for fashion trends, and I’d much rather be comfortable than look like I’m trying too hard to fit into a trend. Besides, I’d prefer to have a nice watch on my wrist and be comfortable than look like an idiot. Oh, and this indie-pop look that guys are following. Yeah, definitely not for me. Sorry!
What’s at the top of your bucket list?
I don’t really have a bucket list, per se. I have aspirations and dreams where hopefully I can create a life for my family and myself where we can live every day to the fullest and do what we love to do. But if I have to answer: spend a week in a cabana with my fiancée in Bora Bora. #cheeseball
Tell us about a project or accomplishment that you consider to be the most significant in your career – and why.
I’m super proud about finally launching our platform Haulogerie. We’ve worked pretty hard to accumulate an organic following on Instagram, and I’m so excited to see where we can go from here. We’ve worked with some awesome brands and I hope we can continue to grow and stake our claim in such a niche market.
If you had to choose a favourite brand for men’s watches, what would it be?
Just one?! Definitely Rolex. Their watches haven’t changed much in the past few decades and they still top the list as one of the best selling watch brands in the world. Need I say more to their efficacy?
Any favourite ‘watches in film’ moments?
Not really. A lot of the time it seems more of a marketing move, where the camera angle is obviously shot towards showing the watch in all its glory. But if I had to choose, maybe the shot of Jeremy Renner with his IWC in The Bourne Legacy.
What are three things you can’t live without?
My phone. My MacBook. And my chargers.
What’s your best party banger to get everybody dancing?
I find myself inadvertently speaking about watches which for whatever reason turns people off from talking to me… So maybe the opposite of a party banger??
What would be your last meal – if you could choose?
Ricotta cheese and salami calzone! No wait! Crepes and maple syrup!
