It’s got a weird name. Moving on, The Phab 2 Pro from Lenovo is the world’s first smartphone to include Tango, Google’s new augmented reality technology for gaming and utilities. Look through the screen and the supported apps will allow you to see virtual objects and information overlaid onto the real world. You could raise a virtual pet, fight monsters invading your home or arrange new furniture and appliances around the house to see if they fit the aesthetics. There are currently over 30 supported apps on Google Play, and the technology has limitless real world applications.
Apart from the fancy AR, the Phab 2 Pro is also quite a good phone. The 6.4inch display can adapt to variable lighting conditions like sunlight or light reflections, with a 16 MP rear camera and another 8 MP on the front. Three microphones offer 360 voice input and Dolby Atmos with 5.1 noise cancelling audio handles the sound. The processor is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 that’s been optimised for Tango with 64 GB of memory and 4 GB of ram. The Lenovo Phab 2 Pro is available for US $499 and comes in your choice of Champagne Gold or Gunmetal Grey.
