How to Make Rick and Morty’s Szechuan Sauce

McDonald’s Szechuan dipping sauce is the newest thing trending on the internet this month. Why is the internet talking about a nugget dipping sauce that has been discontinued for nearly 19 years?
The answer can be found on an April Fool’s episode of Adult Swim’s hit show Rick and Morty. In case you missed it, mad scientist Rick is obsessed with the dipping sauce in this episode. Rick becomes unhinged, ranting uncontrollably and foaming at the mouth about his one true love—McDonald’s Szechuan sauce.

The dipping sauce was briefly released by the fast food giant in 1998 to celebrate the debut of Disney’s Mulan. While you might like to try a taste of the sauce yourself, just to see what all of the hoopla is about, we are not sure whether or not Mickey D’s plans to bring the sauce back or not. They teasingly hinted on Twitter that they might just bring it back. Just in case they don’t resurrect the sauce, we have some good news for you.

Andrew Rea, of the YouTube Channel —Binging with Babish, decided to recreate his version three different ways. In the Binging with Babish Channel, Rea recreates iconic and obscure food favourites.

Rea makes three different versions of the Szechuan sauce. The first version is Rea’s take on the famed McDonald’s sauce. For the second version of the sauce, Rea enlisted the help of a Reddit user since he has never tasted McDonald’s Szechuan sauce. For the third version, Rea just combines Mcdonald’s current Sweet and Sour Sauce and Barbecue Sauce.

Rea does a final taste test where he compares the three sauces to one another and declares a winner. Watch the video and try to make the sauces yourself. Tell us which one you prefer.
