Mission Workshop was founded in 2009 in an alleyway that was aptly named “The Messenger Ghetto.” Their origins go even farther back than that, however. In 1994, co-founder Mark Falvai put together a company called Chrome Industries, which specialized in lifestyle cycling bags and apparel. Mission Workshop still creates bags—their first was the expanding pack called the Vandal—and it’s still Mark sitting at the sewing machine putting together prototypes that he hand cuts and sews. The other founder, Jeff Roberts, was a founder of Massif Mountain Gear Company, which provided combat apparel to elite teams like the CIA, Navy Seals, fighter pilots, snipers, SWAT, FBI, NASA, and more.

All that combined experience came to bear on their Pavement and Gravel collection. The elite-level cycling kit is made from ultra-high-performance 37.5 and Dyneema—textiles known for keeping the body’s temperature in optimal range and for being the world’s strongest fibers. The Pavement and Gravel collection has a clean and lean profile, with a minimalist silhouette. The kit is meant for both road and gravel applications—hence the name—and includes mid-calf socks, a base layer crew shirt, the PNG Jersey, a bib short, and a microlight windshell jacket.
