The NT News Follows Through on Liftout that Doubles as Toilet Paper

It goes without saying that Australia’s newspaper industry has gone to shit of late, but one publication that seems to be revelling in the notion is The NT News. The cultural icon, best known for eye-catching headlines such as ‘Horny Ghost Haunts House’ and ‘Trouser Snake on a Plane’, has just printed an eight-page insert for the daily edition, which doubles as toilet paper.

The centre-fold (or scrunch, depending on your preference) comes in response to the growing toilet paper stockpiling trend. Supermarkets across New South Wales and Victoria have been cleared out as Aussies prepare for an incumbent coronavirus outbreak. However, as The NT News pointed out, our northern neighbours don’t seem overly concerned.

The newspaper uploaded three photos of supermarkets around the NT, each displaying shelves stacked high with Sorbent’s finest, proving once and for all that Territorians really don’t give a shit. But the paper didn’t stop there.

A follow-up tweet explained that the publication was weighing into TP-gate, printing the eight-page insert for those unable to make it to the shops.

Many canned the idea as a harmless joke, but unbelievably the paper followed through (pun intended).

“Run out of loo paper? The NT News cares. That’s why we’ve printed an EIGHT-PAGE special liftout inside, complete with handy cut lines, for you to use in an emergency,” the front page of Thursday’s edition read.

It’s still unknown if the new liftout will feature again in the coming days, but with the toilet paper stockpiling not slowing down, it may be cause for a comeback. Regardless, you can’t knock a good old fashioned piece of Aussie ingenuity. God bless the Territory.
