Who has better cars than British superspy 007? Now you can rival James Bond thanks to Bonham’s listing for the Aston Martin DB5 from the movie GoldenEye.
GoldenEye was produced in 1995 and starred Pierce Brosnan as the intrepid James Bond. The Aston Martin DB5 was a key player in the opening chase scene between Bond and arch villainess Xenia Onatopp as the pair raced down the hills of Monaco, Bond in the Aston Marton and Onatopp in her Ferrari.
Aston Martin has become essentially synonymous with Bond. Sean Connery drove a DB5 in 1964’s Goldfinger. The DB5 was also featured in Thunderball and recently Daniel Craig’s Bond drove one as well. The GoldenEye DB5, however, is perhaps the most famous of them all. The current owner purchased the car in 2001, and at the time of the purchase, it was the most expensive Bond memorabilia ever sold. It was only recently surpassed in 2010 when the original star car from Goldfinger sold for 2.6 million pounds. Bonhams is projecting that the GoldenEye DB5 will reach 1.6 million pounds.
The DB5 has a six cylinder, 4.0 liter engine that can still hit a top speed of 150 miles per hour. The car will be on display starting June 2 at Bonhams until the sale at Englefield House for the Bonhams Goodwood Festival of Speed Sale on July 13.
