Frederique Constant Classic Worldtimer Manufacture
Sound watchmaking need not cost an arm and a leg. It really doesn’t Watch brands like Rado, Longines and of course, Frederique Constant, present some amazing timepieces at some equally as amazing price points. Enter the Classic Worldtimer Manufacture, as an example. A tried and tested worldtimer, the Classic Worldtimer Manufacture is now presented in a beautiful green colour for this year’s up and coming Baselworld. One of the highlights of the Classic Worldtimer Manufacture is the in-house calibre FC-718 movement, featuring perlages and Côtes de Genève throughout. And the price? A mere 3,500CHF. Yep – pretty damn accessible.
Bell & Ross Vintage Steel Heritage
An exciting revelation of horology is the ups and downs of watchmaking brands. And one brand that is definitely on the up and up is Bell & Ross. Take their latest piece, the Vintage Steel Heritage, as an example. The 41mm satin polished steel case, screw down pushers and crown, and slim black aluminum ring bezel are very reminiscent of the traditional chronograph timepiece layouts. The black dial and sand-coloured luminous hands and hour numerals make the piece pop, with the overall aesthetic of the watch flowing so well. It’s powered by the automatic calibre BR-CAL.301 movement, and all up costs $6,850AUD. Not at all bad.
Ulysse Nardin Freak Vision Coral
How do you make an incredible watch, a technical mastery, even better? Not an easy feat by any means, but trust Ulysse Nardin to pull it off. Available in two one-of-a-kind variants, the Ulysse Nardin Freak Vision Coral showcases a beautiful bond between high end technical horology and beautiful decorating to create a package that’s both mechanically and viscerally impeccable. It’s available in either a natual blue-green setting, or a very coral-like red-blue look. Either way, it’s a stunner.
HYT H0 FEEL THE HYT
This piece is hot. Like really hot. So hot that you can literally feel the heat radiating off of it. Okay, maybe not. But the brand new H0 FEEL THE HYT is definitely one “lit” piece. Isn’t that how the young’uns say it? The H0 FEEL THE HYT features some very cool technical characteristics, too. For example, there’s a patented thermal compensator, ensuring that the liquid expansion due to variations in the temperature never affect the fluid nature of time-telling. Not only is the H0 FEEL THE HYT hot, it’s also big. At 48.8mm across and 17.9mm deep, it is an absolutely beast. This 18k satin finished yellow gold beauty is made in a super limited run of 5-pieces and has a retail cost of $59,000USD.
Kari Voutilainen 217QRS
The Voutilainen atelier is one of horology’s finest, and with Baselworld 2018 coming up Kari will of course be featuring some incredible timepieces. Here is one of the latest updates, the 217QRS. It’s a 39mm wide, 11.5mm thick piece created in either platinum, white gold or rose gold and made in a limited run of only 10-pieces in each metal. Each piece will feature the passing hours, minutes and seconds, as well as a retrograde date in the centre of the dial. Indications of pricing is quite ambiguous, but we have a rough estimate of the pieces costing anywhere between 50,000CHF to 100,000CHF.
