Piggybacking off 2021’s success in the Gold Coast, where prize winnings reached a record $1,502,550 thanks to 1,113 entrants, 2022’s first stop in the harbour city promises to be the largest tournament of its kind across Asia-Pacific. The 12-tournament schedule will launch on March 30th, headlined by the deep-pocketed WPTDeepStacks Main Event from April 7-11.

The $1500 buy-in event offers three starting flights and unlimited re-entry, according to the official press release. Key highlights of the Sydney schedule include the opening event with a $750 buy-in, a two-day $2,000 event, and the $5,000 Challenge.

“Poker players in Australia have always been passionate about the game and the partnership with The Star Entertainment Group allows us to expand our presence there,” says Adam Pliska, World Poker Tour CEO. “Hosting the first World Poker Tour event at The Star Sydney puts us front and centre in the largest poker market in Australia, one of the most iconic cities of the world, adding another element to our 20th-anniversary celebration.”

“The Star has hosted some of the biggest names in sport, music, and entertainment, and we look forward to welcoming the world’s best poker players,” says Damian Quayle, COO of The Star Sydney. “With the World Poker Tour celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2022, this event will be the first time that WPT sets a footprint in Sydney. This looks set to be the biggest ever staged in the Asia Pacific and with the world’s best players here to compete, Sydney and The Star will be showcased as one of the best vacation playgrounds in the world.”

Following the inaugural stop in Sydney, the WPT will head north for two additional legs at The Star Gold Coast. For those who can’t make it to the casino (or have been banned), each event will be live-streamed and broadcast globally on WPT.com and the WPT YouTube and Twitch channels.
