Among the most frustrating and baffling of first-world problems is that of holiday pricing. Airfares and hotel rates are forever bouncing up and down like yo-yos – or even worse, petrol prices – as the Machiavellian geniuses of the travel industry twiddle their knobs and yank on their levers and make sure none of us is ever sure of when we’ll get the best price and when we’ll get ripped off.
Well, as is always the case nowadays, there are hard-working heroes eager to solve this problem for us. Travel search engine Kayak has crunched the numbers and determined that, without any shadow of a doubt, the best time to book your holiday is…
3am on a Thursday.
Seems a bit anti-climactic, really.
But apparently, that’s the truth: hit up the booking site at 3am Thursday and your chances of getting a bargain are maximised. Some might blanch at the idea of depriving themselves of precious sleep for the sake of saving a few bucks, but serious travellers will make the effort.
Kayak dug up some other interesting tidbits on the subject of travel, including:
- India is the most-searched international destination by Australians: specifically, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad.
- Australians’ favourite travel destination is, unsurprisingly, Bali. And the cheapest time to go there is November.
- If you’re booking at short notice, Bangkok is a good choice – it’s cheapest when booked a month before your departure.
