Rimowa Original Cabin Moon Luggage Released

The billionaire space race is heating up, so it’s only natural the luxury industry is coming along for the ride. Luggage legend Rimowa has shot for the moon with its latest release, unveiling the new Cabin Moon piece, a renewed range that adds a lunar touch to the much-loved Original Cabin lineup.

The new limited-edition release covers the classic luggage staple’s aluminium skin with a moon graphic complete with craters and topographic features. Designed to mimic the celestial body’s surface, each shape in the luggage’s structure adds a sense of depth and authenticity to the overall silhouette. The outer shell is contrasted with a red and white detailing along the suitcase, a design feature that is continued in the white leather luggage tag. According to Rimowa, this red edging pays homage to the colour seen on the NASA astronauts’ original space suits.

On the inside, Rimowa hasn’t changed much from the Original Cabin luggage, and that’s a good thing. The carry-on still cops the same TSA-approved locks, flex divider and multi-wheel system that made the first iteration so popular. But that’s not to say Cabin Moon isn’t unique.

Rimowa confirmed that only 750 numbered models of the Original Cabin Moon would be produced, in line with a specific lunar milestone. The figure marks the 750,000 km round trip journey between the brand’s headquarters in the German town of Köln and the moon. Sure, it’s a fair distance, but judging by how often our elites are firing themselves into the atmosphere, it might not be too soon before we see the feat realised.

Priced at USD$1,690, the new Rimowa Original Cabin Moon doesn’t exactly come cheap, but then again, neither does suborbital travel. Guess if the Beez is looking to return to the edge of space in the not too distant future, at least he can do it in style.
