Last year, Rimowa and Supreme teamed up on a set of black and red custom suitcases adorned with the Supreme logo. For Fall 2019, the duo is back at it yet again with another luggage collection.
Rimowa based the new collection on their LVMH “Check-In L” and “Cabin Plus” sizes. The cases feature silver aluminum bodies that have a black anodized coating. A spider web pattern in white covers the cases with a Supreme logo on the back. Rimowa’s Multiwheel system makes the cases more mobile, while a TSA combination lock keeps your items secure. Opening the cases reveals an interior lined with viscose jacquard fabric that has the Supreme monogram print. Two Flex-Divider systems take up the interior. Each piece of luggage also features a co-branded leather luggage tag. The collection hit Supreme stores on November 14 before going online and into Rimowa stores on November 16. The Check-In L suitcase is priced at $1,800 and the Cabin Plus rings in at $1,600.
LVMH, who purchased an 80 percent stake in Rimowa in 2016 for a reported $716 million, has pushed Rimowa to offer collaborations like the one with Supreme as a strategy to boost the brand’s recognition. Rimowa has worked with other big names like Off-White, Bang & Olufsen, and Dior. “What I’d like for us to be in five years is obviously a culturally relevant brand in the space of travel, hopefully not only selling suitcases but other travel-related products and really own this journey for the customer,” explains LVMH CEO Alexandre Arnault. That approach seems to be working. Last year’s collection sold out just 16 seconds after launching. That kind of success is definitely a motivating factor in continuing the partnership and is no doubt the driving force behind LVMH’s commitment to taking Rimowa to the top.
