Six Flags announced plans to expand its operations to include a park in Saudi Arabia. Six Flags Qiddiya will open in early 2023 and will encompass 79 acres filled with 28 rides and attractions. The park will include six lands: The City of Thrills, Discovery Springs, Steam Town, Twilight Gardens, Valley of Fortune, and Grand Exposition. Located about 40 minutes from the Saudi capital of Riyadh, the park will also features the world’s longest, tallest, and fastest roller coaster—Falcon’s Flight.
“The Six Flags brand began in 1961 when we opened our first park, Six Flags Over Texas, which was themed according to the six flags that once flew over Texas,” says David McKillips, President of Six Flags International Development Company. “At Six Flags Qiddiya, we return to that heritage by creating six immersive lands designed for Saudis of all ages who seek family entertainment experiences steeped in their rich culture and history. We are thrilled to be a part of a project of such scale and scope and are proud to celebrate this milestone with Qiddiya.”
As one of the main attractions to the park, Falcon’s Flight will be a record-breaking achievement. A mock-up video of the ride shows four carriages that can hold up to four passengers each. The carriages are designed to look like a robotic falcon. The ride features several loops as well as winding tracks that pass through canyons. The launch powered drops could hit speeds up to 155 miles per hour. Those speeds will not only rival but exceed the current record holder, the Formula Rossa roller coaster in Abu Dhabi.
“Our vision is to make Six Flags Qiddiya a theme park that delivers all the thrills and excitement that audiences from all over the world have come to expect from the Six Flags brand, and to elevate those experiences with authentic themes connected to the location,” said Michael Reininger, Chief Executive Officer of Qiddiya Investment Group. “As a place that will create indelible memories and moments of delight, telling stories that resonate with our guests is a central notion that will be evident throughout Qiddiya.” Of course, all that will be a blur while riding Falcon’s Flight.
