If you didn’t know that there is such a thing as a “stay-and-play market” then you’re probably not into golf. This new idea is quickly catching on as more and more golf courses and resorts are marketing toward those looking for a quick get-away from the ordinary and mundane. Bigwin Island Golf Course is one such locale where, as it says on their website, “it all starts with a boat ride.”
Bigwin Island is located in Southern Ontario, Canada, in the Lake of Bays area. The island feature a golf course designed by award-winning Doug Carrick. The course is a player friendly one that takes you through the Muskoka landscape and featuring plenty of spectacular views from elevated tees. Once you’ve finished your round of golf, it’s off to any of the many options available for a drink and a meal. The Dockside Lounge lets you sit waterside and observe the boats, or enjoy a quieter ambiance with spectacular views in the Marine Dining Room. Either place is well stocked with local craft beers.
When not on the greens or in the clubs, you can enjoy your stay-and-play cabin. The cabins feature glass walls that wrap around the building, maximizing the views yet again. Wood siding accentuates the glass, as do the decks and porches where you can find plenty of seating to enjoy the weather. Inside, a gas fireplace can keep you entertained and warm. Bigwin has big plans for these cabins. Currently, there are only three finished, but when all is said and done, there will be 40 in total. The cabins are spaced along the 9th and 18th fairways. Though the layout changes for each of the cabins, the 1300 square feet of space include two bedrooms and two and half bathrooms, making it comfortable to sleep four guests. Two additional guests could easily sleep on the pull-out couch in the great room. You’ll also find a mini kitchen complete with a fridge, though muffins and pastries are delivered each morning and you can take advantage of the continental breakfast as well.
Bigwin is setting the bar for stay-and-play get-aways, with picturesque views, amazing accommodations, and a fun course to play.
