Karl Lagerfeld’s French Riviera Villa is Available to Rent

Ever wondered how the other half lived? The former summer home of influential fashion designer and ex-Chanel creative director, Karl Lagerfeld is a fair indication. Two years after the style icon passed, his Mone Carlo, Monaco property has had new life breathed into it, setting the scene for a remarkable summer of fun. Naturally, it’s an ode to opulence and extravagance at every step, but best of all, it’s not just for the fashion-forward anymore. Karl Lagerfeld’s French Riviera villa is currently available to rent, for a cool €15,000 (AUD$23,000) per night.

According to Architectural Digest, Villa La Vigie was built way back in 1902, under the Belle Epoque style of design. Hallmarks of the aesthetic prowess, the villa is highlighted by stunning wall panelling, columns, and influential crown moulding throughout the estate. While it remains a beacon of visual pleasure on the Riviera for several decades after it was built, the villa subsequently became an integral landmark during the Second World War. The occupation of German forces saw the property used it as an observation post during the period, however, it manage to escape the conflict relatively unscathed.

Flash forward a few decades and it caught the eye of a promising fashion icon. In 1988, Lagerfeld bought the home, originally planning to base himself there for some time. Five years down the track, the fashion legend kicked off an iconic tenure at Chanel, choosing to use the downtime to renovate the French villa.

“Villa La Vigie is unparalleled,” Aurelie Lepercq of Edge Retreats said in a statement, according to Mansion Global. “(The home) is one of the most prestigious on the French Riviera thanks to its history, architecture, exquisite decor and prime location.”

At present, the property houses six bedrooms, four bathrooms, two dressing rooms, and a billiards room, complete with a 2,500 square foot terrace. Not a bad spot to take in the sun and sights of the neighbouring Mediterranean Sea. According to AD, those who stay at the property will also be treated to a private lounge tent at the Monte-Carlo Beach Hotel’s private beach, along with access to their pool and restaurants, and an electric car so that the hotel’s many amenities can be easily reached. But don’t think it will come cheap.

Mansion Global is reporting that a stay at the iconic French property will set you back at least €15,000 (AUD$23,560) a night, with the cost reaching €45,000 (AUD$70,000) in the busiest season. Say what you will about the price, but you can’t deny the man had taste.
