LEGO Guggenheim Museum Set Recreates Architectural Masterpiece

With his futuristic and visionary designs, American architect Frank Lloyd Wright changed the way that we live. Born in 1867, the world-renowned designer was recognised as the “greatest American architect” ever by the American Institute of Architects.20

Lego has decided to honour the late architect with a special Guggenheim Museum Kit. The kit was released to celebrate Wight’s 150th birthday on June 8th. New York City’s Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum is one of Wright’s most iconic works. Opening six months after his death, this building was the last one that famed architect ever designed.

Architecture buffs everywhere can now build a small scale replica of this famous building. The kit, part of the LEGO’s Architecture Series, includes the distinctive lines, curves and spiralling galleries that has made the museum famous.

Although this is not LEGO’s first Guggenheim set, it is the most detailed and true-to-life. Their previous version, released in 2009, included just 208 pieces. The 150th Anniversary Edition has 744 pieces. Among the pieces in the new set are a 10-story tower that was added to the building in the early 1990s, the museum’s circular rotunda and Wright’s signature lettering across the front of the building. It even includes a plastic Fifth Avenue with mini yellow cabs racing along the street.

The completed model measures over 10 cm high and 17 cm wide. It includes a special instruction manual and booklet that highlights details of the building’s construction. It also has some interesting information about the life of Frank Lloyd Wright.
