Switch to Smart Living with IKEA’s ‘Symfonisk Floor Lamp Speaker’

IKEA and Sonos have been reshaping “the way we think about sound and light” via their collaborative Symfonisk product line for a while now, but their latest collaboration could well be the best. Recently, the two companies added the newest and most expensive lamp speaker in the Symfonisk lineup yet, the Symfonisk Floor Lamp, a modish floor lamp that comes with a speaker mounted on top. IKEA and Sonos kicked off the Symfonisk line in 2019 with the goal to design and develop space-saving elegant home decor creations that elevate life at home.

Design-wise, the Symfonisk Floor Lamp speaker is somewhat reminiscent of the second-gen Symfonisk lamp speaker, albeit here, the legs extend down to the bottom to meet in a circular base. The top features a standard bamboo shade that can be customised via additional SYMFONISK speaker lamp shades; however, these are sold separately.

In a press release, Stjepan Begic, range design leader at IKEA of Sweden said, “We have learnt a great deal about how people want to furnish with light and sound. We also know that many people want to have several light sources on different levels and parts of the room to create the right mood. The challenge of not having enough room for a table to put the lamp on led us to create the floor lamp.” You can connect the Symfonisk Floor Lamp with IKEA’s DIRIGERA smart home hub to control and operate the whole thing and there’s also support for AirPlay 2 for quick and effortless pairing with iOS devices.

Furthermore, this new smart speaker lamp can be “paired together with other products from the SYMFONISK range or other Sonos products,” thus allowing it to “act as a rear speaker to create a home theatre setup with light and room-filling sound.” All in all, the Symfonisk Floor Lamp speaker presents itself as an everyday chic floor lamp that comes with a relatively powerful speaker and smart hub capabilities. There’s nothing high-tech or flashy here, thus enabling it to blend in almost every household setting. “The SYMFONISK floor lamp speaker is a great example of how our collaboration continues to challenge the traditional idea of sound in the home,” Sara Lincoln, principal product manager at Sonos added.

If you are looking to mix up your home decor game, the Symfonisk Table Lamp will be available online as well as in-store starting sometime in January 2023 and will cost USD$259.99 (or AUD$383) in the US. The press release mentions that “IKEA and Sonos will continue to challenge each other to find new solutions to enhance life at home through good sound integrated into home furnishing products.” Or to put it bluntly, expect more smart furniture in the future.
